My Sister's Keeper

My favorite softball picture from this summer

Slacker

I have been such a slacker in keeping this blog up! We just finished Alyssa's softball schedule which started in May. Whew I never realized the time and expense associated with traveling ball. We had such a good time and meet new people. Not sure Alyssa enjoyed the year as much. She did not play as much as she or we would have liked and we are not really sure why?? I am not a big fan of not playing everyone since they are all there to learn and how can you learn sitting on the bench??! She is a great hitter always to the grass and plays well at catcher, I truly believe it was some other personal issue with the coach and his daughter who was on the team. Not a fan of parents coaching teams their children are on I think it is too hard to separate your emotions towards your child in these situations. Anyway we survived and are hoping for a better season next year.

Sebastian is well on his way to his senior year in High School and I am so sad, but excited for him. Gosh when did he grow up, I feel like I have not had enough time with him or what if I have not properly prepared him for the world? What if someone hurts him and I am not there to help him? What if he needs me when he goes away to college and I am not there? I am so missing him already and am planning to spend as much time with him as possible over this next year. He is such a wonderful smart young man and I am so proud of him!

Gavin is switching schools this year so he will attend the same school with Alyssa. He has had a hard time at his current school with some events that occurred with his mom and kids can be mean. I am hoping this new year will bring him some better school experiences and good friends. I have found a tutor to help him as he struggles with math and story writing. He knows the work but seems to have a problem getting it out quickly. We have shared custody so we work very hard in the summer trying to get him to the skill level he needs but we are hoping an outsider will have more positive results. I have found a great tutor from the local college. She is a junior majoring in education so it should be a good fit! Poor Gavin had to endure the long 3 months of softball tournaments, so now we need to do some fun stuff he will enjoy before school starts. He was a trooper!

Steve and I continue to be unemployed. I have lost track of the resumes I have submitted. Most companies at this time do not even acknowledge they received the resume. I have had 1 interview, but 80 were scheduled and I am sure more qualified. I took a chance but no luck. I remain hopeful, but it is very stressful on our relationship. I think men equate work with their manhood and providing for their families and if they cannot it is devastating to them. I am thankful that we have a home, food, and health. I am sure God has a plan for us and we will make it through and appreciate the good times even more!

Steve and I have a weekend without the kids, Gavin is at his Mom's, Alyssa is in Indy with her Dad, and Sebastian is working, so I am hoping we can relax and spend some quality time together. Sadly we have not seen Rebekkah in some time as she is angry with our house rules, but we still continue to pray she will turn around and spend some time with us. Vince lives far away and doesn't always stay in touch, but I am seeing Dylan his son this week which is wonderful, he is so full of energy!! Who knows what the future will bring, but I am excited at the possibilities.

6 month update!!

I am such a slacker and have made a resolution to keep the blog up to date and take more pictures, the kids just grow and change sooo fast! Steve and I were married on Valentine's Day this year so now we are really a blended family with all the drama. The year has not been off to the best start, but I am faithful God has a plan for us. Steve lost his job 2 days before the new year and I lost mine almost 2 weeks ago. Steve fortunately just started a new job a month ago-Woo Hoo and I have been kinda looking. Severance lasts for 6 weeks so a little over 4 weeks to look. The kids are all good. I think I will post separately about each one and their active lives! Spring cleaning is in full motion around here and I love it. The smell of a really clean house is the best and it is so relaxing to come home to. Look for more updates posts soon!

Labor Day Weekend

What an adjustment school starting has been for us! Summer is coming to an end, but I love fall so I am excited at the cool weather and holidays approaching!

Sebastian started his junior year at Shoreland on August 20th. I was excited and sad at the same time. My beautiful blue eyed boy will be off to college in 2 short years! He started driving to school this year since he got his DL in June. It is scary! He also started his first job in June at the local theatre. He is such a smart and good young man, he is a blessing to me! I just love him!

Alyssa started at a new school, Bethany, on August 25. She is off to a good start and I am glad we made the change. The school is so organized and positive it is amazing. She can now ride her bike or walk to school which is so good for her. 2 friends from her previous school also made the move to Bethany so her transition has been smooth. I am glad to see she has made new friends, she is so funny, outgoing, and a nice girl so I can see why she has made friends quickly. Again I do not know what I have done to be blessed with such a great daughter. I love her so much!

Our Labor Day weekend started Friday with Sebastian's first football game of the season. The Shoreland Pacers won 42-40 over Dodgeland. Hooray Pacers!! Alyssa brought along her friends from her old school and new school Maggie, Hannah, Darcy, and Abby. She likes to cheer on her brother which embarrasses him, but he takes it in stride. I am so excited the football season has started we love Friday night games! Next week we head 2 hours away to play Lourdes in Oshkosh, WI. My sister lives 20 minutes away from Oshkosh so she will get to see her nephew play. I can't wait!

Saturday Steve, Alyssa, and I got up early to meet Grandpa and Grandma Slater for breakfast. Thanks for breakfast Dad!! They are in town for the 105th Harley Davidson Anniversary celebration. We went to the local Harley dealer, Uke's, after breakfast to see all the booths and activities. Grandpa also bought Alyssa a 105th anniversary shirt and she was so excited and wore it the rest of the day!

Sunday we are repairing things around the house and hanging wall decor from the new paint. Sebastian and Alyssa are gone with their Dad, and Gavin is with his Mom so we are alone-what to do?!
